The Bible Unplugged is my attempt at getting back to basics! In a way I suppose it's a no-frills kind of Bible study (the Easy Jet of Biblical study?!!). The idea of 'unplugged' is of course a reference to that famous music programme where bands appearing had to perform without any techno-wizardry - just acoustic instruments and (hopefully) raw talent. It was a real test of whether a band could play live or not and also whether they had any material actually worth playing! It seems to me that the Bible is an absolute powerhouse of inspiration which is more than capable of standing up for itself - by itself. Big screen video presentations and glossy handbooks are great but they can sometimes detract our attention somewhat from the real star of the show - the Bible itself. So The Bible Unplugged aims to engage with the Gospel of Luke in a simpler way. Basically we'll read a short passage at home and jot down our thoughts about it: what we think it means; what we don't understand; what struck us as odd; what we specially noticed etc. Then we'll come along every other Thursday and after a cup of tea we'll share our thoughts together as we look at the passage once again. Certainly not rocket-science; not even original but I hope as we explore the words and life of Jesus together then we'll learn and grow as the Bible does what it's supposed to do - enriches our relationship with God, with each other and the world we live in.
